Okay so I read the first three chapters of Lost Angel today, and here's my summary of them:
Hilda and her daughter Ellen live in London at a time of war, and Hilda's husband Doug has enlisted in the navy. Because of the unsuitable conditions, Hilda decides to send her daughter to Somerset where she could stay at one of Hilda's old friend's, Gertie. As much as Ellen wants to stay with her mother or wants her mother to come along with her, Hilda says she can't because of her parents. Sadly, though, Hilda's parents believe that they'd be safe hiding under a table at their house, but instead, they both pass away after their house is destroyed as a result of bombings.
Hilda and Ellen stay over at a friend's place in London whose house hasn't been touched, but then, after Gertie has approved of their staying over at her place, they move to Somerset where they believe everything will be better.
Even though Gertie's house isn't luxurious and all, Hilda is glad to see that Ellen is liking it here, with all the different kinds of animals, and believes that she took the right decision-that of staying at Somerset for a while. Other than that, Hilda is glad to believe that they're finally safe, and that hopefully, she too will be okay.
